Composition Seminar – Dr Martin Suckling
Concerto Conversations (or: what I did on my holiday from teaching)
Over the past year, I’ve had the first performances of two quite different concertos: one 30 minutes, five movements, for Mozartian orchestra and piano, the other a single 15-minute movement for flute and symphony orchestra. I’ll introduce these two pieces and discuss how I chose to approach writing in a dead(?) genre for a dead(?) instrumentation. I’ll also likely touch upon thematicism, sketches, and (as usual) microtones.
