Composition seminar – Jamie Man

Language, Love and Vivier.

Claude Vivier’s Kopernikus, subtitled ‘Ritual of Death’ is an opera where words and music have a unique and fascinating relationship. The composer believed that, “Opera, as a form of expression of the soul and of human history, cannot die. The human being will always need to represent his/her fantasies, dreams, fears and hopes.” Is this true today?
