Radio 3 in Concert features Martin Suckling’s Candlebird

Originally commissioned by the London Sinfonietta in 2011 and receiving widespread critical acclaim at its premiere, Candlebird, a poignant song-cycle for baritone and ensemble setting texts by Scottish poet Don Paterson was performed by Mark Stone with the Aurora Orchestra under conductor Nicholas Collon at King’s Place, London on 7th April and will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 In Concert on Monday 16th April at 7.30pm.
The concert also features Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 16 with pianist Charles Owen and Beethoven’s Fourth Symphony and will be available online for 30 days after broadcast.
The revival of Candlebird was supported by the PRS Foundation’s Resonate scheme, supporting the best UK orchestral music of the last 25 years.

    Following the success at the 2019 International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM)  – World Music Days , Thomas Simaku’s most recent work, La Leggiadra Luna for mixed choir a cappella, has been broadcast by four European radio stations.

    His new work will be performed by four different ensembles in four European cities and released on CD in 2020

    The objective of Discovering Young Composers of Europe (DYCE) Competition was to bring together the four regions of Europe (North, South, East, West) by inviting the composition students and alumni of all European Academies, Conservatories and Universities to submit a work.
