Jack McNeill

Jack’s research is considering notions of site-specificity in the composition of electronic dance music.  He is specifically looking at the interplay between location, space and place, their necessity in the emergence and sustenance of dance and club music scenes and how such ideas are translatable into the composition of new work.  Jack is interested in cross-disciplinary composition and performance methods and works with media beyond sound, influenced by visual, conceptual, performance and sound arts to create works of electronic music that extend beyond the loudspeaker.
Under the moniker Oren, Jack has performed live and DJ’d across the UK and Europe.  His recent release Polyr with Blackbox Records charted on the UK Dance Chart and a successful string of capacity shows in the UK followed the release.  Past and future performances and collaborations include appearances alongside The Octandre Ensemble, Ishamel (Wolf Music/Church Records), The National Orchestra for All, Sub Focus and Lakuti (Uzuri Recordings founder) and include performances in Beate Uwe (Berlin) and Leeds’ First Direct Arena.  His research takes his professional practice into account and is very much influenced by his expertise and knowledge of certain scenes through first hand experience.  He also currently works as a freelance composer, producer and sound engineer, working on various projects in both technical and creative roles.
