Nektarios Rodosthenous
PhD Composition

Nektarios Rodosthenous (b. Nicosia – Cyprus) studied composition with Dr Michael Spencer and Dr Ewan Stefani and holds a BA (Hons) Music and a MMus Composition from the University of Leeds. In January 2010 he started his doctoral studies in music composition at the University of York under the supervision of Prof. Ambrose Field (Head of Music Department). His PhD is now completed and will be awarded in January 2016. He is an active researcher (digital media aesthetics and film musicology) and he presented his work in conferences in Cyprus, Greece, and UK. His music, often for ensemble and tape, aims to fuse the acoustic (live) with the acousmatic (tape), and he composed for mixed ensembles, soundtracks for short films, dance and theatre productions, with the latest being a commission by the National Theatre of Cyprus, and no_body dance festival (DanceHouse, Cyprus). He is the Artistic Director of the international ensemble o/f [or] (with members from UK, Cyprus, Greece, Poland and Hong Kong), of the dance theatre group ‘klinisch getestet’ and he is a trustee in Conductive Music Project which is based in London. As a music teacher, Nektarios is the music director of the Cyprus Kindergarten of the Lions International Clubs in Nicosia Cyprus, teaching pre-school music from 3 to 5 year-old children. Nektarios is interested in poetry; he writes frequently, both in Greek and in English and his poems have been published in the Independent/Φιλελεύθερος newspaper in Cyprus, in Avant Garde magazine, in Νέα Εποχή and Ακτή poetry journals, and in poiein.gr.
