Patrick John Jones

PhD Composition

Patrick John Jones’s music has been performed by artists and groups such as the Britten Sinfonia, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic’s Ensemble 10/10, Mahan Esfahani, Jane Chapman, Dark Inventions, The Fidelio Trio, Lontano, The Kreutzer Quartet, The Ligeti Quartet, and Octandre.    He has received commissions and performances from a variety of new music promoters, including Sound & Music for their Portfolio scheme and New Dots. In 2014, he was the recipient of the Britten Sinfonia’s OPUS2014 commission.

Current projects include the Lyons Celebration Award commission for The University of York Symphony Orchestra and an Arts Council funded recording and publishing initiative in collaboration with Dark Inventions and the University of York Music Press.  He is one of Sound & Music’s New Voices 2014, and some of his scores are available through Composers Edition.

Patrick took courses in composition with Thomas Simaku and Roger Marsh during his BA in Music at The University of York and continued studies to masters level at Kings College London with Rob Keeley, before returning to York for his PhD.

With Jin Hyung Lim he won the 2015 Terry Holmes Composer & Performer Award.

Patrick is the holder of an AHRC studentship.
