Robin Haigh – PhD Composition

Robin  is a composer from London, who in 2017 won a British Composer Award at the age of 24. His 2014 comic opera The Man Who Woke Up has received multiple international performances, and will be staged in a revised version in Chicago in 2019. Recent  collaborators include the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Northern Sinfonia, the Hermes Experiment, the Berkeley Ensemble, the Ligeti Quartet, Tabea Debus (recorder), Richard Harwood (cello), and the Sage Gateshead’s Young Sinfonia, for whom he was PRSF Composer in Residence. His piece Zorthern features on the album Next Wave 2 on NMC Recordings.

His music often deals with non-standard instruments and ensembles, and examines how these can affect audience expectations.
Robin studied at Goldsmiths and the Royal Academy of Music with teachers including Dmitri Smirnov, Edmund Finnis, and David Sawer.
Robin is supported by a WRoCAH scholarship.
