Rupert Avis
PhD Thesis

Rupert’s research explores Western art music scenes in India. His research interests include: performance psychology (performance anxiety in particular); Western art music pedagogy; music and postcolonialism; and popular music. He is currently a member of the cello section of the University of York’s Baroque Ensemble. He has taught extensively since leaving school (both cello and piano), in locations ranging from Wolverhampton and Huddersfield to Mumbai and Calcutta. He holds degrees from the universities of Manchester and Cambridge, and performance diplomas in cello and piano.
