Shu Yu Lin

PhD Student


Shu Yu is a composer and music researcher. Her research interests include acoustic and electroacoustic composition, music perception and cognition, art installation and interactive computer application.    Her PhD focus is composition for acoustic and electroacoustic media. In 2015, she graduated with a M.A. in Music, Science and Technology from Stanford University where she studied with Brian Ferneyhough, Erik Ulman, Giancarlo Aquilanti and Chris Chafe. Besides composition studies, she has carried out music psychology experiment with Takako Fujioka. She also made projection installation and interactive pitch tracking computer application. In 2013, she received B.F.A. in Theory Composition from National Taiwan Normal University where she studied with Wen Ta Juang.  Her music has been performed in Taiwan, China, U.S.A., Belize and the U.K. She has worked with Splinter Reeds Ensemble from the U.S.A. and the Liminar Ensemble from Mexico. In 2015, she received a Field Research Travel Grant from the Center for Latin American Studies at Stanford University.

Shu Yu is the recipient of the Overseas Research Scholarship of the University of York.
