Exploring Acoustics

This performance will feature improvised music inspired by Beau Stocker’s research into Eastern African percussion rhythms and exploration of the uses of timbre in percussion performance practices.

Improvised music informed by East African rhythms from South Sudan and North Sudan will show how the two traditions vary and will also form the basis of musical pieces that exemplify an experiment of venue acoustics taken from non-traditional performance venues in York by Ben Eyes. Audience members will be presented with auditory examples of varying room acoustics, melding these with live performance to explore the notion that the brain is influenced by the acoustic footprint of a space.
